The ability to lead a diverse workforce has become one of the most important management skills in the workplace today. This program is designed to assist leaders in understanding diversity issues so they may attract, retain and engage their ideal workforce.
This program can be delivered in a two-day session or four half-day modules.
In this program, participants would explore:
Leadership Issues:
- differences between leadership and management skills
- four cornerstones of personal leadership: courage, insight, self-discipline and influence
- building trust, even in hostile environments
- why good communication is vital when leading a team and how to communicate as an effective leader
- how to influence your team in the absence of positional power
- how people think differently and why different leadership styles work with different people
- how and why people read intention behind leadership behavior
- keys to giving useful positive and negative feedback
- performance models to assist in the uncovering and solving of core problems
- 'four stairs to leadership' communication and delegation model
- conflict models of how we and others respond to challenges.
Diversity Issues:
- what diversity really is
- why we have negative emotions regarding diversity
- what is 'privilege' and how does it affect how we unconsciously think about others
- vital information about key areas of diversity in our workplace such as:
- - generations (Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, Gen Ys)
- - Aboriginal/non Aboriginal differences
- - religion in the workplace
- - visible minorities/non visible minorities diffferences and immigration issues
- - intellectual or physical disabilities
- the consequences to ourselves, the organization and our colleagues of communicating based only on our perspective
- how we create generalizations and stereotypes
- how we develop our beliefs and how those beliefs affect how we perceive colleagues, the work that needs to be done, and how it should be completed
- how we interpret our common values and how they play out in our everyday behaviours to create conflict
- strategies to move from diversity-based conflict to understanding and reconciling behaviours.
